LET'S CELEBRATE EARTH DAY AT LA RIVELAINE

La Rivelaine invites the American Women's club to a private immersive visit uniting art, nature, scent, and education. Set within its tranquil gardens and historic barn, the experience explores the dialogue between botanical cultivation, incense craftsmanship at Insensum, and ecological responsibility. Through guided encounters, exhibitions, and sensory discovery, visitors are welcomed into a living space where creativity fosters environmental awareness and shared cultural understanding.

The Experience

During your visit to the atelier of Insensum, you will be introduced to the refined production process of incense and to the deeply human language of scent.

The art of incense-making offers a powerful paradigm: a practice in which centuries-old knowledge meets contemporary science, guided by a disciplined respect for the laws of nature — where matter, time, and attention converge.

Embodiment and incarnation are central to this approach. Through sensory experience — particularly the often-overlooked sense of smell — ideas become tangible, knowledge becomes responsibility, and ecology becomes a shared way of inhabiting the world.

Art Brussels is one of Europe’s oldest and most renowned contemporary art fairs, founded in 1968, held annually in April at the Brussels Expo. Featuring around 150-165 international galleries, it is known as a "discovery fair" that focuses on emerging artists, solo presentations, and experimental, boundary-pushing art, drawing roughly 25,000 visitors annually.

Format: The session will include a 40 minute talk by Dr Veronica Ventura, a member of AWC Bern. Dr. Veronica Ventura is an American-trained gynecologist. After earning her degrees from UC Davis, Tulane University, and Harvard, she served seven years in the U.S. Army, with assignments in Tacoma, Washington, Colorado Springs, and South Korea. Following her military service, she practiced for 4 years in Tacoma, Washington, and later for 17 years in Singapore, where she founded an NGO in Cambodia to train rural nurses. Dr. Ventura also contributed to humanitarian efforts during the Ebola crisis and in Somali refugee camps. Now residing in Interlaken, Switzerland, she focuses on volunteer work and renovating a historic home.

The Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 4th June at All Saints Church, Waterloo. This will be preceded by a Pot Luck Dinner at 6pm, with the AGM starting around 7:30pm. All Members are invited to attend! We also call for people to volunteer to join the Board; please contact chris@awcb.org if you are interested. Arrival and setup of the potluck begins at 6 pm and the meeting beings at 7:30 pm (or likely a bit later as we talk so much!). Registration is free and all members should bring something to share for the Pot Luck Dinner or a drink. Join us at the Summer Bar on the back patio of Kasteel Huldenberg! Huldenberg is a short distance from Overijse. The owner of the kasteel enjoys running a pop-up bar on his property both in Summer and Winter seasons and serves beer and wines from his wife's Spanish winery. There are also sodas, water, and potato chips. The bar is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 7 pm to 11 pm; and the upcoming dates are June 4,5,6,11,12,13,18,19,20,25,26,27. Our club has scheduled several times to attend when we know that some members will be in attendance, but please go on whatever dates are good for you!

Join us for a guided tour of the Tom Frantzen Sculpture Garden!

Come join us as we have a guided tour of Tom Frantzen's private sculpture garden! Drinks and snacks are available for purchase at the garden facilities. Our group will be led with a guide over an estimated time of 2 hours. Tour start time is 2 pm.

Tom Frantzen is a Flemish contemporary sculpture artist. Many of us have seen his sculptures throughout Belgium.

We must pre-pay for the guide, so no refunds are possible within two weeks of the event.

Join us at Donna's home to practice conversational French!

Dates: Every other Tuesday afternoon from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. The exact address will be emailed to registrants in the Reminder email sent 2 days before the class.

Teachers: classes taught at Donna's home will be split between Aglaia Ponomareva and Sophie d'Assche.

Material: We recommend that participants purchase the book "French Conversation Made Natural" by Language Guru (1st edition) for classes held at Donna's home. It is available on Amazon.com.be

Transport: paid street parking is available in the surrounding streets, and her home is about halfway between Merode and Montgomery public transport stations.

Come join us to celebrate 250th Independence Day (4th of July) Celebration hosted by the AWCB, with a BBQ and music! Due to the success of the past two years parties, we needed a bigger space! So how about a castle and its beautiful grounds? Very easy to access via exit 3 of the E411 and just next to the town of Overijse with loads of parking. Public transport info coming soon!

The event starts at 3pm with welcome drinks, whilst the bbq (cooked by the AWCBs own Chefs!) will commence at 5pm.

Price includes entrance, music, 2 drink tickets, a burger, a hot dog, sides & pie! Additional drinks available from the paid bar. Music will be supplied by our very own DJ!

This event is open to AWCB members and all partner clubs, including other FAWCO Clubs. Bring your families and friends and join us to celebrate this special and unique day.

AWCB at Le Val Richer, Normandy, France

The AWCB is delighted to again have been invited to the wonderful private Le Val Richer estate in Normandy for this Members (and their Guests) Only event. Stay in this private, family chateau, eat dinner at 8 pm, tour the Normandy beaches and museums, sample the local cider, relax with a good book and enjoy the superb luxury of the Val Richer in the company of your Club friends.

Agenda

Breakfast, lunch and dinner (with wine) is included, along with wonderful rooms and excellent company with your fellow Club members and friends. Optional tours are being arranged for each day as follows (all costs payable locally and using your own cars for transport):

Accommodation

As each room is slightly different in price, below is a guide only. Please note that all prices include your meals taken in the House. All arrangements will be handled individually by email - you will be contacted after you register to determine your room choice. Those of limited mobility will always be given the first choice.

Main House Gallery 1st Floor Double Rooms (en suite) - Double Occupancy 78 euros per person per night, Single Occupancy 94 euros per night. 5 rooms available.
Main House Aile Double Rooms (en suite) - Double Occupancy 76 euros per person per night, Single Occupancy 89 euros per night. 7 rooms available, including 1 wheelchair accesible.
Main House Aile Double Rooms (toilet & sink, shared bathroom) - Double Occupancy 73 euros per person per night, Single Occupancy 83 euros per person per night. 2 rooms available.
Ferme (newly renovated rooms in building adjacent to Main House; en suite) - Double Occupancy 76 euros per person per night, Single Occupancy 89 euros per night. 4 rooms available.
Ferme (newly renovated rooms in building adjacent to Main House; detached dedicated bathroom) - Double Occupancy 73 euros per person per night, Single Occupancy 83 euros per person per night. 1 room available

Additional Charges

Per person Sojourn tax (per person per STAY) - 8 euros
Credit Card Payment Fee - 3% (waived if paid by bank transfer)
All meals and entrance fees for visits outside the House

Arrangements

Your initial booking fee covers the costs of the Club and makes a small contribution towards the Val Richer maintenance fund
A dedicated WhatsApp Group will be set up for all registrants for final arrangements and to enable Members to arrange car pooling between themselves
All Registrants will be contacted by the Secretary after registration to discuss room availability and preference; note that priority for accessible rooms will go to those of limited mobility
You do not have to stay the whole time; you can choose to arrive and/or leave on a different day, depending on your availability
