Who we are

HOPE stands for Humanitarian Outreach Program and Events. As one of the founding pillars of the AWCB, HOPE has been connecting people over the last 65+ years by helping AWCB members make a difference by volunteering in the local community, raising funds to provide grants for projects of local Belgian charities, as well as raising funds for global projects facilitated by our umbrella organization, FAWCO (Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas).

In our outreach and fundraising efforts, we foster empathy and kindness for those around us even for those we may not know. Yes, at HOPE we care.

What we do

Hearts for HOPE: We gather together to make heart shaped pillows to donate to breast cancer patients at the UZ Leuven Breast Cancer Ward

Angel Tree: We collect and distribute gifts for the children of La Cite Joyeuse and the Red Cross Refugee Center for St. Nicholas Day (the traditional holiday gift-giving day in Belgium)

Local Outreach: Plan seasonal parties and events for the residents of the Red Cross Refugee Center in Alsemberg and Residence Tombeekheyde assisted living facility.

Local Assistance: Organize collection of new or gently-used clothing, household items, electronics, etc. for organizations such as the Center for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence

Raise Money and Awareness: Organize and participate in fundraising lunches and events to benefit local and global charities.

Who we support

Center for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence: provides temporary housing and counseling to women and their children escaping life-threatening situations

Red Cross Refugee Center in Alsemberg: provides housing for approximately 200 indiviuals who seek refuge in Belgium

Residence Tombeekheyde: an assisted-living facility with residents of all ages.

La Cite Joyeuse: An orphanage dedicated to improving the quality of life and the social and academic integration of the children entrusted to them

Centre Nos Pilifs: Nos Pilifs is a center for multidisciplinary outpatient rehabilitation and a basic school for children diagnosed with autism. The center develops individualized programs in order help students with autonomy, socialization and cognitive skills. Their collaborative mindset offers families the opportunity to be at the heart of an educational and therapeutic alliance for children with autism along with the center.

American Oversees Memorial Day Association Belgium:  An organization with a mission to perpetuate the remembrance of the members of the American armed forces who died in the defense of freedom and who are buried in Belgium by organizing and conducting Memorial Day ceremonies at American cemeteries, commemorating and preserving the graves of the American servicemen buried in isolated graves outside of these three cemeteries in Belgium, and engaging in youth outreach and other projects and activities to promote the remembrance of the members of the American armed forces who died in the defense of freedom.

FAWCO Target Project: Hope Beyond Displacement: Hope Beyond Displacement aims to build better futures through education, vocational and leadership training for refugee women and girls in Amman, Jordan. It is an initiative of the Collateral Repair Project (CRP) designed to address the pressing issues identified in close consultation with the women they serve.
