Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO)

The American Women's Club of Brussels (AWCB) is a member of the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO), an international network of 64 clubs in 34 countries around the world. FAWCO is a global women’s NGO (non-governmental organization), and since 1997, FAWCO has held special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council. Each member of a FAWCO member club such as AWCB is automatically a member of FAWCO and is eligible to serve on committees, participate in conferences and meetings, and take part in activities.

FAWCO is an international federation of independent organizations whose mission is

• to build strong support networks for its American and international membership;
• to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide;
• to advocate for the rights of US citizens overseas; and
• to mobilize the skills of its membership in support of global initiatives for education, the environment, health and human rights.

FAWCO Membership Benefits include:

• Hands-on information on living, working, studying or travelling in 34 countries worldwide.
• Student and house exchanges with FAWCO families.
• Eligibility to apply for inclusion in the State Department Federal Credit Union.
  
• Participation in NGO meetings and charitable fundraising activities on issues of importance to you.
• Attendance of regional meetings and annual conferences.
• Access to information on women's health, voting from overseas, educational support for children with special challenges, environmental projects around the world, literacy projects you can support or participate in, legislation in Washington that concerns US citizens living abroad.
• You, your children and your favorite charitable projects are eligible for FAWCO Foundation Scholarships and Relief and Development Awards. In 2001 The Foundation awarded $32,500 in scholarships and $20,000 to projects essentially to the benefit of women and children in developing countries.
• Immediate, built-in support network through a local AWC should you move to another country or through FAWCO Alumnae USA should you return to the United States.
