ACB Wine Tastings - Santorini, Crete & Sardinia

A series of three virtual wine tastings via Zoom

    Wednesday 15, 22 and 29 July

To help put everyone in a vacation mood, discover some good new wines and socialize safely virtually or in small groups, Terre Mieli Cieli invites you to join a series of three 90-minute virtual wine tastings featuring typical wines from Santorini, Crete and Sardinia, three of the best and biggest wine producing islands in the Mediterranean.

It works like this: You register on the ACB website to order the wines for the series online. You can either pick them-up or have them delivered to your door. When the day comes, you get a few wine-friendly nibbles ready, connect to Zoom, open a designated bottle and learn a little about it before socializing and networking in Zoom’s breakout rooms in small groups of 4-5 people at a time. We will taste two wines per evening (you can open just one if you are alone, of course, or invite friends over to discover them with you). Our host, ACB member and sommelier Brandon Mitchener, will introduce the topic and then the first wine with a few slides and invite everyone to give comments, then we’ll split into smaller groups for easier socializing. We’ll bring you back to the “main room” on Zoom for a few minutes to introduce the second wine, then we’ll open up the breakout rooms again with a different set of people. If you miss a session, you’ll still have the wine!

    Event details

Date: Three virtual wine tastings on Wednesday 15 , 22 and 29 July 2020
    Time:  6:00 p.m.

Place: home delivery of six bottles of wine and zoom meetings
Price: €90. ACB/AWCB/CCB members receive a discounted price of €80.

Reservations are due by July 8 to join the first zoom wine tasting. Cancellations are possible until noon July 8. Participants canceling after this time, as well as no-shows, are charged the full cost of the event. A minimum of 5 people are needed for this event. If you are not able to make one of the virtual wine tastings, you can still receive a box of 6 bottles of wine and are welcome to join the other sessions!

The Canadian Club of Brussels, the American Club of Brussels, and the American Women's Club of Brussels invite you to our monthly reading group on the second Wednesday of the month.

Peter Tompkins (1919-2007) was an American journalist, World War II Office of Strategic Services (OSS) spy in Rome and correspondant for the New York Herald Tribune and CBS.  Also utilised as an undercover agent in Italy in 1944.  His best-known books are The Secret Life of Plants, Secrets of the great Pyramid and Mysteries of the Mexican Pyramids.

Exploring the world of plants and its relation to mankind as revealed by the latest discoveries of scientists, The Secret Life of Plants includes remarkable information about plants as lie detectors and plants as ecological sentinels; it describes their ability to adapt to human wishes, their response to music, their curative powers, and their ability to communicate with man. Authors Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird suggest that the most far-reaching revolution of the 20th century — one that could save or destroy the planet — may come from the bottom of your garden.

Please contact reading group coordinator, Geneviève Bergiers, to register or with questions: 02 660 57 65.

The Canadian Club of Brussels, the American Club of Brussels, and the American Women's Club of Brussels invite you to our monthly reading group on the second Wednesday of the month.

The book this month is However Long the Night by Aimee Molloy

I propose this title in keeping with the FAWCO (Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas) Target Program for 2020-2021 recommended reading in health matters.

Molloy grew up in Buffalo, New York. She earned a B.A. in history from Duke University and a M.A. in urban planning from NYU. The story of her unorthodox path to garnering her first book deal was chronicled in a 2015 TED Talk. She has since written or co-written several additional nonfiction books, including New York Times bestseller However Long the Night: Molly Melching’s Journey to Help Millions of African Women and Girls Triumph and Rosewater, which was turned into a major motion picture directed by Jon Stewart. Aimee and her family live in Brooklyn.

    Goodreads rating: 4.17

In However Long the Night, Aimee Molloy tells the unlikely and inspiring story of Molly Melching, an American woman whose experience as an exchange student in Senegal led her to found Tostan and dedicate almost four decades of her life to the girls and women of Africa. This moving biography details Melching's beginnings at the University of Dakar and follows her journey of 40 years in Africa, where she became a social entrepreneur and one of humanity's strongest voices for the rights of girls and women. Inspirational and beautifully written, However Long the Night: Molly Melching's Journey to Help Millions of African Women and Girls Triumph is a passionate entreaty for all global citizens. This book is published in partnership with the Skoll Foundation, dedicated to accelerating innovations from organizations like Tostan that address the world's most pressing problems.

PWI Brussels’ Entrepreneurship Programme focuses on the essence of entrepreneurship: generating serendipity. Successful entrepreneurs intuitively understand that increasing the potential for unplanned fortunate coincidences is what sparks above average growth. Those happy coincidences are not found behind a computer screen or locked up in an office staring at a white wall. They are encountered by actively engaging with others, by being curious about what is being said and done, by exchanging ideas and thoughts. What better place to bond than a meal? And, what better time than the end of the month to reflect on the month that has been and prepare for the one coming up.

Join us and become part of the Growth Club - where leaders grow leaders.
