On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous, by author, Ocean Vuong is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late twenties, the letter unearths a family's history that began before he was born — a history whose epicenter is rooted in Vietnam — and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation.

In this short information session, participants are invited to discover the boundless world of improvisational theatre (aka theatre without a script), guided by Kelly Agathos and Rozana Radu, teachers and professional improvisers at the ImproBubble School of Improvisation. Kelly and Rozana will introduce and demonstrate the core principles of improvisation, which include failing good naturally; unlocking the potential of our imagination; discovering the benefits of saying 'yes, and'; letting our partners shine and listening with intent. There will also be some space for audience participation, but no one will be forced to play or put on the spot! Warning: side effects of attending may include lots of laughter :)

Improvisational theatre is perfect for those who want to get onstage (or as a complimentary course to traditional acting) but also for those who have no interest in treading the stage boards. If you want to increase your confidence and self-awareness, your communication and listening skills, if you want to reframe your relationship with failure and take more risks, to explore the boundless possibilities of your imagination and discover new things about yourself, then improv is for you!

Let Kelly and Rozana lead us into the world  of improvisation and help us to be present in the moment, let our creativity fly, communicate more effectively  and most importantly...

    Have a fun time!

Are you interested in reading and want to join our daytime book club?

    Little Bee

    By Chris Cleave

We don't want to tell you too much about this book. It is a truly special story and we don't want to spoil it. Nevertheless, you need to know something, so we will just say this: It is extremely funny, but the African beach scene is horrific. The story starts there, but the book doesn't. And it's what happens afterward that is most important. Once you have read it, you'll want to tell everyone about it. When you do, please don't tell them what happens either. The magic is in how it unfolds.

From the author of the international bestseller Incendiary comes a haunting novel about the tenuous friendship that blooms between two disparate strangers—one an illegal Nigerian refugee, the other a recent widow from suburban London.

We will be meeting by Zoom.  Link will be provided after registration.

Mindfulness meditation allows us to pause and reframe our perspective so that we can learn to experience a greater sense of calm, relaxation, clarity and focus in our lives.

Mindfulness instructor, Robin Cresswell-Faure will lead us through a 40 minute guided meditation that will cultivate focus, compassion and a more relaxed mind and body.

When it ends, check in on how you are feeling. If you’re feeling calmer, that’s great! If not, that’s perfectly normal, too. One of the things about meditation is to go into it with no expectations beforehand, and no self-judgment afterward. If you show up consistently and develop a regular practice you will develop a stable awareness over time.

Join us for Quaranvino goes to Portugal on 6th & 20th March for a trip to the Alentejo in the South to the Douro Valley in the North to discover the diversity of Portuguese wines through its local varieties.

On Saturday 6th March, dinner will be hosted by Gabriela Fialha of Cartuxa, historic winery in the Alentejo region of Southern Portugal. Cartuxa is located in Evora, and was bought by a Jesuit rector at the city’s famous university in the 1700s. When the Jesuits were expelled, the winery was taken over by the state and was fitted with a wine press in 1776. Cartuxa farms both organically and conventionally and we will discover their organic, riserva and special Colheita lines during the evening, all made from grapes native to the region.

On 20th March we’ll have dinner with Stephane Ferreira of Quinta do Popa in the Douro Valley. For many generations, Stephane’s family had spent time in the Douro but it was his father who bought the property in 2003. The first vintage was produced in 2007 and in 2010 Stephane and his sister Vanessa took over the management of the winery bringing a new approach to this very traditional area. Their white uncorked, black label red and Quinta do Popa Porto are great expressions of the tradition of the Douro region.

Both dinners will be guest-moderated by Ana Monforte, Portuguese origin, citizen of the world born into a family of wine-makers.

    How it works:

    • Choose either the Duo or Trio package. One package is enough per household and you get access to both dinner events
    • We ship you the wines as listed the week before the event (to anywhere within central Europe (DE, BE, NL, IT, AU, FR) , please select the 6 Euro supplement for shipment to Denmark, the Baltics, Poland, Spain, Portugal or Italy).
    • We send you suggested recipes and a link to join the dinner dates
    • You tune in and be as sociable as you feel. Our breakout moments give you the chance to catch up with friends, just let us know in the registration form who you know on the call.
    • Dinners start at 8pm and last until around 10pm, after that we open up the breakout rooms again until 11.30pm so you can carry on your evening.

Packages include participation at both events, if you can’t make it, you will be able to access the recording to catch up on your own time.

Duo Box: Two wines per producer:

    • Cartuxa – Bio Branco & EA Riserva (Red)
    • Quinto do Popa – White Uncorked & Black Label red

Trio Box: Three wines per producer. As above plus these two special labels:

    • Cartuxa : Colheita Tinto
    • Quinto do Popa : Vintage Port

TICKETS ARE VERY LIMITED FOR THIS ROUND - SIGN UP TODAY!!

Living in the UK? We work with Cartuxa’s importer in the UK to offer tickets for the dinner on 6th March (you’re also welcome to join for 20th of course). See our Quaranvino UK ticket office for more details.

Belgium has been hiding a treasure for 600 years : the library of the Duke of Burgundy is one of the finest manuscript collections of its time.

Six centuries ago, Brussels belonged to the rich and powerful Dukes of Burgundy. The Dukes were skilled politicians and cultured patrons, and established one of the most prestigious manuscript collections in the world, a unique treasure.

The collection is started by Philip the Bold (1342-1404). After the death of Charles the Bold in 1477, the ducal library consists of more than 900 manuscripts, of which a third is preserved at KBR today.

At the intersection of medieval and modern times, this “Library” covers all areas of science and contains very important texts from medieval literature. It is one of the largest libraries of its time, together with the library of the French kings, the Medici and the Vatican Library. The manuscripts are illuminated by some of the best miniaturists of the 15th century, of whom were arguably just as famous as Jan Van Eyck.

The collection will be introduced and guided by cultural guide Yolande d'Yves. Yolande has been a passionate tour guide for 27 years, guiding diverse exhibitions in Belgium and Europe for adults and children including exhibits at La BRAFA, La TEFAF de Maastricht, Musée de la Bande Dessinée, Le Palais de Justice de Bruxelles, Africa Museum, and many more. She is an art historian and speaks French, English, Italian and Dutch.
